Chief organizer Ayesha Tammy Haq explained why they felt they must go on with the show: “We, the members of Fasion Pakistan, feel great to host this colourful event at difficult times of our history when the entire nation is waging a battle against militancy.”
So on Wednesday, gorgeous models pranced and preened, sashayed down the runway in luxe fabrics — batting paint-heavy eyelashes. Backstage, make-up artists ran around panting, tracking down lip-gloss, while hairstylists were never without mouthfulls of barrettes. Meanwhile, lining the sides of the stage were Pakistan’s elite — the glitterati of a country where most women observe varying degrees of Islamic codes of dress that require them to cover up.
